Project location and geography
The Upper Kalanga Gad Hydroelectric Project (UKHEP) is nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Bajhang District, Far Western Nepal. The project area encompasses the boundaries of Dahabagar VDC and Khiratadi VDC. Positioned within the latitude range of 29o34’43’’ N to 29o38’24’’ N and longitude 80o52’30’’E to 80o57’20” E, the project area offers a breathtaking backdrop for sustainable energy endeavors.
The headwork area of UKHEP is proximately located near Girau village, with the powerhouse strategically positioned on the right bank of the Kalanga River near Bijgada village. The project’s geographical context showcases the dynamic topography of the region, ranging from elevations of about 1150 m to 6300 m above mean sea level. The Kalanga Gad River, a major tributary of the Seti (West Seti) River, meanders through the project area, contributing to the region’s rich hydrological potential.
The project’s location within the Lesser Himalayan Zone presents unique challenges and opportunities, with the catchment area characterized by rugged topography and diverse climatic conditions. From snow-covered peaks to verdant valleys, the project area encapsulates the essence of Nepal’s natural beauty while embodying the spirit of sustainable development.
